New Horizons (2020), sound and video installation, deconstructed vehicle parts including car doors, digital rearview mirror, car stereo and speakers, installation view: Sonica, 2022 in partnership with Civic Room, North Street

Installed within an intimate space, the deconstructed vehicle parts house a soundscape and looped video that explore intersectional identities. The soundscape is built around delays and disruptions, using samples from selected music genres and movements.

These sounds are filtered and composed to investigate chaos, identity, migration, and displacement. The work functions as an exploration of cultural complexity, considering how sound can act as a multi-sensory experience that engages memory, space, and perception. Through processes of world-building, re-imagining, and sampling, the installation gestures toward transmitting embedded personal and collective knowledges.

The video component, displayed in the digital rearview mirror, presents a slowly moving, non-specific animated landscape. Its hyper-real digital aesthetic evokes alternative possible existences and parallel spaces, prompting reflection on assumptions about cartography, territory, and landscape.
